Dermal fillers tend to be classified as being either non-permanent (resorbable) or permanent (non-resorbable) in their effect. Most UK practitioners now use non-permanent hyaluronic acid (HA) based products such as Restylane, Teosyal & Juvederm. Permanent Collagen fillers (often being derived from pigs & cows) are no longer widely used as they commonly cause allergic reactions. Studies have also proven that they do not last as long as the newer hyaluronic acid based products.

Hyaluronic Acid Dermal Fillers are obtained from non-animal sources. No pre-test is required as the hypo-allergenic gel is so similar to our body’s own natural HA. Their major advantage is a longer duration of improvement to the area being treated as well as the fact that, though rarely needed, their effects can be reversed if required.
Hyaluronic acid exists naturally in the skin and works to maintain moisture levels, but as we grow older levels of HA are depleted leaving ageing skin looking dull and dehydrated.
This treatment simply involves the painless injection of the product into the area to instantly restore lost volume and smooth out lines, folds and hollows, resulting in a softer, more youthful appearance.
The benefits of dermal fillers
- They instantly restore volume, erasing lines and wrinkles
- Results are immediate
- No down time required
- They can enhance facial contours and shape the lips.
Areas responding well to treatment
- Nasal-labial (nose to mouth lines)
- Marionette lines (mouth to chin)
- Lift the corners of the mouth.
- Enhance thin lips (lip augmentation)
- Eradicate wrinkles around the lips (e.g. smoker’s lines)
- Restore volume loss in the cheeks (cheek augmentation)
- Soften lines in any area of the face (e.g. forehead & frown lines)
These products are capable of holding a thousand times their own weight in water and so by replacing the lost HA in our skin, they alleviate the signs of ageing and also restore moisture.
This rehydration treatment can create a glowing complexion by replenishing hyaluronic acid in the skin. This improves hydro balance to increase skin elasticity and improve skin structure.
How long does the treatment take?
Treatment generally takes 20 to 30 minutes and, using a micro needle, the dermal filler is injected to instantly restore volume, softening lines and wrinkles.
Topical and local anesthesia are used to prevent discomfort during the procedure. Depending on the area being treated and the amount of volume loss present, a second session may be required to achieve the desired result.
Possible side effects
These are rare and are mostly injection related rather than due to the product. Side effects can include possible bruising, swelling, redness, itching, pain and discoloration at the injection site. Such complications generally disappear within a few days.
How long does it last?
Usually lasts 6-18 months depending on the area being treated.
